Events in Oslo

Metal Festival (Easter)

In correspondence with the Easter festivities, a huge Heavy Metal festival takes place in Oslo, which attracts music lovers from all over the world. The festival is staged in different parts of the city, like the Rockefeller Music Hall, and lasts for four days, with more than 40 bands performing, many of which are Norwegian.

Feast of the Constitution (17th May)

This is a major Norwegian feast, particularly beloved by the population. On the occasion of this feast everybody in Oslo wears their traditional clothes, joining parades along the city streets with flags and music. In the celebrations take also part the Royal Guard, in a suggestive street parade through the city.

 

Oslo Middelalderfestival (June)

This is a famous medieval festival in disguise, celebrating the Midsummer Eve. During this feast it is possible to taste some local food specialties, to watch tournaments, performances by jugglers, music and medieval songs.

Norwegian Wood Rock Festival (June)

The Norwegian Wood Rock Festival is the most famous rock festival in North Europe. It is held every year in June in the swimming pool Frognerbadet, and lasts for four days.
Over the years, the festival saw the performances of many famous artists the likes of David Bowie, Roger Waters, Sting, Bob Dylan and many others, as well as a selection of the best Norwegian rock acts.

Chamber music festival (August)

This important cultural event takes place in August and is staged in some of the most beautiful places in Oslo, usually closed to public, like the Chapel of the Royal Palace, the Church of Akershus Castle, and the aula magna of the university.
During the 10-days event there are performances by orchestras as well as some of the most acclaimed national and international soloists.

Oslo Jazz Festival (August)

Oslo Jazz Festival is characterised by numerous live performances that can be seen in the city clubs and pubs. The 6-days calendar is varied, covering the entire jazz experience, from gospel to blues, with international and local emerging artists.
